Acupuncture for Pregnancy & birth

Acupuncture is a safe and supportive modality during all stages of pregnancy and fetal development. In addition to the symptom-specific reasons listed below, many women continue with acupuncture through all three trimesters to support a healthy pregnancy, manage stress, benefit sleep, promote feelings of contentment and wellbeing, and for general health maintenance and self care.

First Trimester. Acupuncture during the 1st trimester helps to support an early pregnancy and address common concerns such as morning sickness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, reflux, and fatigue.

Second Trimester. Acupuncture in the 2nd trimester provides continued pregnancy support, promotes optimal circulation, and helps to manage aches and pains, circulation issues, and digestive distress.

Third Trimester and Birth Prep. Acupuncture in the 3rd trimester is beneficial for back pain, pelvic pain, lumbopelvic pain, sciatica, reflux, constipation, water retention, swelling, childbirth preparation, breech presentation, and labor initiation when indicated. For women who seek a full term vaginal delivery, it is beneficial to receive regular acupuncture treatments in the final weeks leading up to the due date.

Dr. Annie is a wonderful practitioner and was referred to me by my doula in an effort to utilize acupuncture/moxibustion to assist with turning my baby to head-down after learning he was breech at 34 weeks pregnant. After 4 treatments of acupuncture and moxibustion twice a day, the baby successfully flipped to head down by my 36 week doctor’s appointment! Beyond the baby, Annie was reassuring and provided a calming energy when I needed it most. Since this was my first experience ever with acupuncture, I would definitely recommend Annie to others who might be thinking of trying it, while pregnant or not!

Acupuncture after childbirth

Childbirth is a transformative event. The first few months postpartum are a crucial time for self care and healthcare.

Post-delivery and Breastfeeding Support. Acupuncture supports postpartum recovery while addressing specific concerns including fatigue, blood loss, and wound healing. For concerns around breast milk supply, mastitis, or other breastfeeding issues, it is especially important to seek treatment in a timely manner.

Postpartum Mental and Physical Health. Mild to moderate forms of postpartum depression and anxiety are extremely common and often underreported. Acupuncture benefits sleep, stress, emotional balance, hormonal balance, and immunity. We also provide supportive self care measures, resources, and referrals that you can call on for support.

We also treat kids! To learn more about our pediatric acupuncture services for all ages from newborn and up, please visit this page.

I came to Dr. Annie after the birth of my 2nd baby. I needed help creating mental and physical calm. As she said, it took a little time to feel acupuncture results, and after some time I was able to make positive changes I never thought possible. I credit Dr. Annie’s work for helping me get to this more calm place. I’m really pleased. Annie’s also a great listener and gently offers practical advice when appropriate. She’s also an essential oil guru and is always ready to offer a remedy. Go see her, you owe it to yourself.
